Pier
Catherine Hill Bay's pier holds a special place in my heart, as it's where I refined my skills and practiced capturing Milky Way Landscapes when I first began in 2013.
I was drawn to the leading lines of the massive structure, and each night offered a different experience due to the changing tides. High tides prevented me from going underneath the pier, so I would shoot from a distance on the rock shelf. Perfect tide and weather conditions were rare, but I enjoyed exploring the various perspectives the pier offered.
One night, without checking the tide beforehand, I arrived at Catherine Hill Bay to find an exceptionally low tide. This allowed me to access unique angles under the pier that I hadn't been able to capture before. Using an ultra-wide-angle lens, I positioned myself close to a pillar, bringing the pier and the Milky Way together in a captivating composition.
My goal was to showcase the vast length and size of both the Milky Way and the pier in a single photograph, creating a visual connection between the landscape and the stars.
