Lone Cherry Tree
The Milky Way over One Tree Hill, Sunshine Coast.
Perched atop the Glasshouse Mountains, a solitary cherry tree stands with its distinct narrow trunk and thick canopy, believed to be 80 years old. Once paired with a larger twin canopy, the tree has weathered many damaging storms, as it is situated in a high wind and thunderstorm-prone location. Its future remains uncertain.
This 180° vertical view captures the outer arm of the Milky Way, featuring prominent celestial objects. The Southern Cross constellation and Eta Carina Nebula are positioned near the cherry tree's canopy. At the bottom, our two neighboring galaxies, the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) and Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC), are visible. The colorful cloud complex Rho Ophiuchi appears in the top middle, adjacent to the Milky Way's galactic center.
